NEW SCARE ZONE:

Ironworx

(source

"A world of flesh and machine, of gears and steam offers a journey through the streets of steam punk battlefield influenced by a city of dead where blood is power."

NEW SHOWS:

Academy of Villains

"Academy of Villains will open your eyes to a world of wonder, glory, and excitement. From a zombie choir to a twisted version of silhouette dancing, they will take the audience by surprise and will have them experience a sense of artistry that they never deemed possible. Located in Showtime ."

Nytewalkers

"The sun has set and the outbreak has begun! Join this zombie crew as they defy gravity in search for a good party. You’ll flip-out once you witness what they are capable of!

This is a CGA-exclusive show created by the team that brought you "Aerial Ice Extreme"! Located in Celebration Plaza."

The horrifying mazes that will be making their return at Halloween Haunt 2014 include CarnEvil, Zombie High, CornStalkers, Toy Factory, Madame Marie's Massacre Manor, and Dia de los Muertos. It appears Werewolf Canyon and Slaughterhouse Annihilation mazes have retired this year to make way for new screams. The Gauntlet and UnderWorld Alley scare zones will also be returning as well. But thats not all, the spooktacular Blades of Horror show is back along with Fun House Express.

Wax Museum is definitely my most anticipated new maze out of the Halloween Haunt 2014 lineup. Mirror Mirror sounds interesting too, I wonder if it will be something similar to the Mirror Mirror maze that was at Knott's Scary Farm last year. (See here.) I'm happy to see Blades of Horror is returning, both Academy of Villains and Nytewalkers sounds frightfully fun also. Can't wait to experience all the new fear at Halloween Haunt!

Dates for this year's event:
  • September: 26, 27.
  • October: 3, 4, 10,11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 25, 26, 31.
  • November: 1

What do you think of this year's haunt lineup?

Making Monsters Panel to Premiere at ScareLA 2014

(Source

For the first time ever, lead make-up designers from four major SoCal theme park Halloween events will come together on stage at this year's ScareLA. Representatives from Knott's Scary Farm, Six Flags Magic Mountain's Fright Fest, Universal Studios Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights, and Queen Mary's Dark Harbor will be featured at the "Making Monsters" panel to discuss their upcoming season and the monster making process with fellow haunt enthusiasts.

From the press release:

"This is a huge deal for us, and an incredibly exciting moment for Halloween fans," explains Rick West, Programming Producer of ScareLA. "For the first time ever anywhere, four of Southern California's premier theme parks are coming together as a united front on one stage at the same time to discuss what it takes to bring thousands of monsters to life every night for their high-profile events! I am very excited about this panel in particular, because it embodies the spirit of what ScareLA is at its core - the celebration of Halloween as a singular community here in Southern California."

Making Monsters panelists include:

-Tim Barham from Knott's Scary Farm, the event that began theme park Halloween events in 1973. A member of the Knott's Berry Farm team for 20 years, Tim is the Area Manager of Wardrobe and Makeup Design.

-Scott Ramp from Six Flags Magic Mountain's Fright Fest, where he has served as makeup designer for the past 21 years. An accomplished writer, director and actor, Scott also formed his own business in 1995 - The Scream Team - which supplies high-quality, hand-made foam latex appliances to haunters around the world.

-Larry Bones from Universal Studios Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights. He will discuss the process and talented artists he's overseen since HHN returned to Los Angeles in 2006. Larry is the owner of Bone Yard Effects, a full-service makeup production studio for the film and haunted attraction industry.

-Christina Cofran from Queen Mary's Dark Harbor. She is Dark Harbor's Department Head/Makeup Supervisor. A 16-year veteran of Queen Mary's Halloween events, Christina develops the look of Dark Harbor's monsters, and trains a team of makeup artists each season in bringing the ship's denizens to life.

The Making Monsters panel will take place on Saturday, August 9th at 5:30pm only at ScareLA! For more information about ScareLA, visit their official website here.  _______________________________________________________________________________

Upcoming Event: Great Horror Campout

Haunt enthusiasts in the San Francisco area! The folks behind Ten Thirty One Productions (creators of the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride) dare you to experience the Great Horror Campout at the Alameda Fairgrounds this weekend! This overnight horror camping adventure will be packed with plenty of activities to get your scare on before the Halloween season. Check out more details about the event down below!

From the press release:

People want engagement and complete immersion in their experiences...and Great Horror Campout is the definition of that. The night is packed with layer upon layer of active content. The days of spectator sport haunted attractions and events are over and we couldn't be more excited about that,” states Ten Thirty One Productions Founder, Melissa Carbone.

Campers can decide how extreme of an experience they get by their choice of activities lasting 12 hours (8pm to 8am). In the “Chicken Zone,” campers may watch horror movies and roast marshmallows, while those seeking “High Startle” zones will want to warm up around the Bonfire or wander off to the Mess Hall.

During Great Horror Campout, campers may be forcibly handled, moved, bound, hooded, chained and subjected to simulated torture by a cast of actors. If a camper can no longer take the horror, shouting the safe phrase “I WANT MY MOMMY” will immediately put an end to the nightmare.

The interactive “Hell Hunt” experience will give campers, whom wish for a more extreme experience a run for their money, as they come face to face with their worst nightmares, in order to retrieve the items for which they are hunting. The Hell Hunt will be an extremely high-octane hunt for items that will send campers bathing in the blood of a “Pope Lick,” partaking in a sacrificial voodoo ritual, digging through road kill amongst “Beasts of Bray” and more. Campers will have to use creative thinking and problem solving to find the most coveted items, especially when facing “Speed Bumps” that may leave the camper kidnapped, caged or trunked. Those “Hell Hunters” who complete the task will be crowned Great Horror Campout “Hellmasters.” Upon being crowned a Hellmaster, campers will receive a sash and an official patch with the city and year they won. The more patches earned at each Campout, the more prestigious each camper will become in the network of Hellmasters."

If your one of the lucky souls who survive the interactive Hell Hunt experience and earn the status of Hellmaster, you'll receive a sash that will provide benefits at future Great Horror Campout events. These benefits include first access to purchasing tents, access to VIP tents that include more amenities, VIP lounge areas, and much more!

If you can't make it to their event in San Francisco, there is still plenty of fear to go around! Check out their remaining locations for their 2014 Summer Tour below!

Dates and Locations:

-7/11 & 7/12: San Francisco, CA

-7/18 & 7/19: Sacramento, CA

-8/1 & 8/2: Portland, OR

-8/15 & 8/16: San Diego, CA

Tickets run $139 each for a two person tent and $99 each for a 4 person tent. There are four tent sections to choose from but all have the same level of scare except for the yellow section which is a safe zone for campers who want a less intense experience. You can purchase tickets to the event here. Parking, overnight tent accommodations, continental breakfast, Hell Hunt experience, a Hell Hunt canvas bag, horror movies, and marshmallows are all included in your ticket purchase.
