Oculus Teaser Trailer

The teaser trailer for Oculus was released recently and it's already sending chills down my spine. Even the poster makes my skin crawl. This upcoming horror film stars Karen Gillan, Katee Sackhoff, Brenton Thwaites, and Rory Cochrane. You may recognize Karen Gillan from the sci-fi show "Doctor Who". The film centers around an antique mirror with evil supernatural forces lurking deep inside. If you haven't seen the trailer yet, check it out down below!

Synopsis from Yahoo Movies:
"Ten years ago, tragedy struck the Russell family, leaving the lives of teenage siblings Tim and Kaylie forever changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents. Now in his 20s, Tim is newly released from protective custody and only wants to move on with his life; but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents’ deaths were caused by something else altogether: a malevolent supernatural force¬¬ unleashed through the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror in their childhood home. Determined to prove Tim’s innocence, Kaylie tracks down the mirror, only to learn similar deaths have befallen previous owners over the past century. With the mysterious entity now back in their hands, Tim and Kaylie soon find their hold on reality shattered by terrifying hallucinations, and realize, too late, that their childhood nightmare is beginning again…"

Catoptrophobia anyone?

Oculus reflects evil forces into theaters on April 11, 2014.

January Box Of Dread Review

It's a New Year err...New Fear for Box of Dread! This dreadful subscription service made it's debut last year and has been delivering a range of horror goodies to numerous horror fans straight to their front door. Last's month's box I received contained Funko mystery mini figures along with a bag of skulls and a candy cane to top it off. So what dreadful things will be in this month's Box of Dead There's only one way to find out!

If you are unfamiliar with Box of Dread, here's some quick details about the service:
- Monthly subscription box for horror lovers.
- Two plans are available: $20 for one month and $57 for three months.
- One lucky horror fan will be chosen each month to receive the 7th Box filled with more horror goodies than a regular Box of Dread.
- They don't ship internationally...yet.

You can check out my review on the December Box of Dread here.

January Box of Dread:

Where to begin!

The first thing I noticed is the Kane ReAction Retro Action Figure peeking out of the box. Honestly, I would have loved to have received The Alien. Who wouldn't? The Alien ReAction Retro Action Figures costs around $15 to $19 each from what I could find online. That's the price of the box right there! There are also 5 figures in total if you're curious, Ripley, Ash, Dallas, Kane, and The Alien. I heard about these figures back at the San Diego Comic Con last year, but the release date had totally slipped my mind. Totally need to get a set of these figures!

If you checked out my last two reviews of Box of Dread, you'll see that I had wished to see more movie promo items or exclusive items to only Box of Dread in future boxes. I got my wish! The second item in the Box of Dread is a Insidious: Chapter 2 promo lantern! Thanks to Box of Dread I can now travel through the further.

There was another Insidious: Chapter 2 promo item in the box along with the lantern, a reusable water bottle with the Insidious 2 logo. Awesome stuff!

On the Box of Dread Facebook Page, they had made a post about putting more vintage horror items in future boxes to mix it up. One of the items they revealed for this month's box was vintage trading cards. The last item I had received in the box was the Terminator 2 Judgment Day movie cards. I haven't opened the cards yet and I think I'm going to leave them sealed. The cards are a very cool addition to this month's box. Excited to see what other vintage items they have planned for upcoming boxes.

Recap: What was in this month's Box of Dread?

-Kane Alien ReAction Retro Action Figure
-Insidious: Chapter 2 Lantern Promo
-Insidious: Chapter 2 Reusable Water Bottle Promo
-Terminator 2 Judgment Day Movie Cards

This marks my third box from Box of Dread and the content inside each box keeps getting better and better! When I first received January's box I knew it wasn't the special 7th box but that didn't stop my satisfaction with this month's box. It's the best box yet since I have signed up! I love the Insidious Chapter 2 promo items and the Kane ReAction figure. The trading cards were a nice touch too. I noticed that most of horror fans received the same items except different figures and cards from what I had seen on their Facebook Page. If you have been wanting to sign up but aren't quite sure yet, I suggest keeping an eye out on their Facebook Page to see what other horror fans receive in their box. Looks like Box of Dread is off to a great start. Well done Box of Dread, keep up the awesomeness! As always, looking forward to the next Box of Dread to arrive at my door.

Here's a video of the horror items found in January's 7th Box!

What an incredible 7th box! Totally jealous!

Devil Baby Attack Prank In New York City

The folks at Thinkmodo are at it again with their crazy scare tactics! In their latest prank they created an animatronic "devil baby" with a remote-controlled stroller to wreak havoc among the victims pedestrians in New York City to promote the film, Devil's Due. Their reactions are priceless! Last year Thinkmodo designed a viral marketing stunt for the remake of Carrie, that featured a woman with telekinetic abilities scaring unsuspecting customers in a coffee shop. If you haven't seen this hilarious video yet, check it out down below!

This devil baby video, I like it. Another!

Devil's Due is in theaters now! Will you be watching Devil's Due this weekend?

The Halloween Experience Volume One Review

It's getting to that time of year where we haunt enthusiasts desperately miss visiting our favorite haunted attractions during the Halloween season. Although October may be far off, the scares we crave don't need to be. The Halloween Experience Volume One provides that much needed fix of visiting these haunted houses but in the comfort of your own home. The Halloween Experience made it's debut last year from Mint in the Box Production, LLC and features six unique haunted attractions from all over Southern California. The attractions include Sinister Pointe, Reign Of Terror, Chambers of The Mausoleum, The Backwoods Maze,The Haunted Hotel, and Fears Gate. Check out the full description of the DVD below! Also a spooky thank you to Phil Crain for sending me the DVD!

"Experience Halloween like never before without leaving the comfort of your home. Your host, Bloody Jenny guides you through an immersive nightmare of monsters, slashers and ghosts so real you'll be fearing for your life. So sit back and brace yourself for... The Halloween Experience!"

The Halloween Experience captures those spine tingling moments you desire from haunted attractions. Such as, the sound of chainsaws filling the air, the echo of demented dolls calling your name, and everyone's favorite clowns! You aren't alone walking through these haunted hallways, your host Bloody Jenny accompanies you on this terrifying journey. She provides witty humor along the way about zombies and other supernatural creatures that go bump in the night.

Although watching this DVD is not the same as experiencing these attractions in person but it's the second best thing! There seriously is a major lacking of DVDs showcasing haunted attractions these days. The only one I have is the Universal Orlando's Horror Nights: The Art of the Scare DVD and that came out all the way back in 2002. I suppose there's always those Halloween specials on the Travel Channel you can record and save, however they only show a glimpse inside the maze and not much more.

The selection of haunts shown in The Halloween Experience provides a spooky insight for those who have never had the chance of checking out these attractions in person. Southern California is home to numerous haunted attractions, so it's easy to lose track of how many there are. Especially when there's new attractions showing up each year, it can be overwhelming at times. Throughout the selection of haunted attractions that were shown I've personal only been to Sinister Pointe in the past. I missed a chance to visit The Haunted Hotel last year during the San Diego Comic Con and after seeing that section on the dvd, it makes me wish I had checked it out. But there's always next year! So I enjoyed getting this inside look at not only The Haunted Hotel, but as well as all the new attractions that I haven't had the chance to visit yet.

Overall, The Halloween Experience Volume One offered everything I love about haunted attractions. I had a blast watching it! After watching this DVD I had to add these new haunted attractions to my list to hopefully visit next Halloween season. The scareactors shown throughout The Halloween Experience were frightfully delightful to watch, they really do bring these eerie environments to life. It would be spooktacular to see The Halloween Experience grow and show haunted attractions outside the California area. Looking forward to the ghoulish attractions Volume Two will feature! If you're looking for a fix to keep you occupied till the haunt season begins then The Halloween Experience Volume One will definitely hold you over. There's enough scares and otherworldly creatures to satisfy you until October arrives.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones Review

I love Paranormal Activity franchise, watching these films on the big screen is always a lot of fun. I felt somewhat empty when there wasn't an annual Paranormal Activity film providing scares during last October. It has became a tradition watching them around the Halloween season. Apparently, Paramount had pushed Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones out a year instead of coming out in 2013. This means that we will get a double dose of Paranormal Activity in 2014.Though this film is the fifth in the series, it's rather a spin-off and will tie into the other films.

Last December, I had a chance to check out Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones early with advanced screening in San Francisco right on Friday the 13th. Perfect day to watch a scary movie, eh? I arrived an hour before show time and realized I may have needed to get in line much sooner than I planned. Apparently, many folks camped out very early in the day to make sure they get a seat at this free screening. I started to lose hope, thinking I wouldn't get in. But luck was on my side that day, as I and many others made in the screening. Right before I got into the theater I was handed a free shirt and greeted by a creepy priest in a black robe.

Here's a photo of the shirt they gave out at the screening:

The theater for the screening was completely packed! It's always fun watching these types of films with a full theater, the audience's reactions make the film more entertaining. Unless the screaming from the audience is right in your ear and might scare you more than what's happening on screen. Haha! Anyways before the screening started the creepy priest in the black robe returned to say what sounded like a prayer or chat but I wasn't quite sure. Whatever it was it had created an unsettling mood...

The Marked Ones is a found footage type of film that centers around two newly high school graduates, Jesse and his close friend, Hector. While pulling some teenager pranks they discover that their creepy neighbor Anna, could be a "bruja" when they hear mysterious noises and chanting coming from her apartment one night. Shortly after they discover Anna has been killed. Jesse and Hector then choose to investigate her vacant apartment...

The scares in The Marked Ones were actually pretty intense. I found myself jumping from some of the scares myself along with the audience during the screening. Even though you can see a few of the jump scares coming, they still get you. On my second watch of the film, there were still scenes that made me jump.

Without getting into spoiler territory, The Marked Ones does answer some questions to previous films have left, but also raises more in the process. There are even more surprises then the previous Paranormal Activity film. The ending will leave you on the edge of your seat! Fans of the series will also enjoy finding the easter eggs that appear through out the film. I noticed more easter eggs on my second watch.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones puts the franchise back on track. The characters are likable, great twists (especially towards the end), and it feels like a fresh start. For those who are unsure of watching another Paranormal Activity movie, I can assure you this film will surprise you. It definitely surprised me. Even though I would have liked to watch this film during October, I really enjoyed this late Halloween treat. After seeing the film twice, I can say it's my favorite among the other films. I can't wait to see how The Marked Ones will attribute to Paranormal Activity 5 on October 24, 2014.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones is out in theaters now!

Great Horror Campout 2014 News

Over the weekend, the Great Horror Campout posted an update on their official Facebook page telling their campers that big news will be revealed soon. If you are unfamiliar with the Great Horror Campout, this isn't your typical haunted house. This event is brought to you by Ten Thirty Productions who are also the creators of the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride. The camp out is an overnight camping experience where campers will face their worst nightmares.

From their Facebook Page:

There hasn't been any other updates so far. Their last update was back in November when they revealed that the next Great Horror Campout is scheduled for June 2014. They also appeared on the show, Shark Tank where you got to meet Melissa Carbone of Ten Thirty One Productions. During the episode she mentions bringing the hayride to New York and launching the Great Horror Campout to ten cites over the West Coast. I'm excited to see this company grow and hopefully get to experience this nightmarish camping adventure for myself. If you like to check out that section of the episode, I have provided it down below.

Update: It looks like the Great Horror Campout is beginning to tease their locations for 2014 on their Facebook page. Eight cities have been teased so far including Los Angeles, Houston, Austin, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, and San Jose. Very excited to hear that multiple locations have been announced for this year!

Halloween Horror Nights 24 News

Can you smell the fog in the air? Haunted attractions are beginning to tease news and updates about the their upcoming attractions for haunt season 2014. Yesterday, the creative director of Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights, Michael Aiello tweeted a photo of the maze one cover page on the official Twitter account. (See above photo.) It's doesn't give any information on what maze one could be or what this year's theme will be. Also if you take a look at the lower right hand corner you can see it's dated 12/03/13, looks like it's Halloween all year around for the Halloween Horror Nights team.

A Halloween Horror Nights fan responded to the tweet on Twitter by asking if this maze would be based on a intellectual property. Michael Aiello replied back saying that this maze would be an all new and original maze. See the full tweet down below:

Last year, Horror Nights had mazes based on films such as The Cabin in The Woods, An American Werewolf in London, and Evil Dead. They even had a maze based on the Resident Evil video game franchise. Only time will tell what new fear Halloween Horror Nights 24 has in store for this year. Most likely we will see their official Twitter and Facebook account drops hints throughout the year for their fans.
